»The Cloud of Witnesses«
On October 10, our film celebrated its successful German premiere at the Maxhaus in Düsseldorf. Now we are working on organizing the distribution.
We hope that soon “The Cloud of Witnesses”, our documentary film about Dietrich Bonhoeffer's time in New York, will be available online. You are already welcome to invite us if you would like to host a public screening. (The movie lasts 65 minutes.)
here.
We, the American theologian Dr. Reggie Williams and the German filmmaker Hellmut Schlingensiepen, conceived the idea for the film in 2015 during a trip through Germany. Among the many places we visited were the Bonhoeffer House in Berlin and the Buchenwald and Flossenbürg concentration camp memorials. In 2018, after extensive research, we began implementation of our idea and conducted the first three interviews in New York. This was followed by three interviews in South Africa in early 2020, before the pandemic brought our project to a temporary standstill. Between March 2022 and September 2023, we were finally able to complete filming and start editing the movie.
We are very grateful for the many experts who supported us in this project. You can find information about them here. In 2019, we cut a teaser with the first interviews to give you a first impression, even though we were still at the beginning of our work back then. If you would like to be informed as soon as the film is available online, please send an email to: info@bonhoeffer-documentary.info.
